Donor Recognition & Naming Opportunities

A gift to PCVS is a gift to our students, current and future. We appreciate gifts of all sizes and wish to acknowledge donors for their generosity. We have developed donor recognition items and displays for all levels of gifts.

We also realize that some donors may wish to have their names associated with PCVS as a way to affirm their connection to the School. Therefore, we have created a limited number of naming opportunities at PCVS, as well.

PCVS Arts Library Donors who contribute $1000 or more to the Arts Library will be recognized on a plaque inside the Library.

PCVS Auditorium Donors who contribute $1000 or more to the Auditorium upgrades will be recognized on a plaque just inside the Auditorium doors.

Auditorium Seats Donors who contribute $500 or more to any program will be given the option of having their name, family name or company name affixed to a seat in the Auditorium. This option will be offered to donors who contribute to the above School needs, as well.

Classroom Doors Donors may wish to sponsor the refurbishment of school doors. This unique opportunity was established as part of the 175th Anniversary celebrations and will continue. For a donation of $1000 or more, a chosen door will be refinished and the sponsors of the door will have their names affixed to a brass plaque on the door.

Donor recognition

  • Donors contributing over $1000 will be recognized on a donor wall in the central stairwell. This is an area of regular student passage and has already been established as the location for PCVS student and graduate recognition. Donors will receive a framed plaque, suitable for hanging

  • Donations over $500 will be recognized on the donor wall and will receive a certificate of thanks, suitable for framing

  • Gifts over $100 will be recognized with a certificate of thanks, suitable for framing § All donors, no matter the size of their gift, will be recorded in a donor book to be held in the School Office, available for view by request, and will be listed on the School's website.

PLANNED GIFTS FOR PCVS

WHAT IS A PLANNED GIFT? Simply stated, this is a gift that you plan to give to a charity upon your death, sometimes called a deferred gift. Recent federal tax legislation has made the giving of some gifts much easier because the capital gains taxes on registered securities have been greatly reduced; therefore, you or your estate can save taxes while helping PCVS.

Giving a Planned Gift is also an excellent way to establish an endowment. Endowments are invested funds that generate scholarships and bursaries through the interest gained by those funds. Endowments have the advantage of contributing to PCVS in perpetuity, because the principal of the investment is never touched. Therefore, you can make a gift today that you know will keep giving to students long after you have passed away. Further information on endowments can be found on the "Scholarships And Bursaries" information sheet.

You should speak to your estate planner or other knowledgeable professional before you complete your Planned Gift. This way, you will be sure to use all tax advantages available, and will direct your gift in the most appropriate manner. If you do not have an estate planner, please contact the school and we can direct you to local sources.

Please be sure to call the School to discuss your donation to PCVS. There are many ways to give and many programs to support. Please contact Principal Denise Severin at 742-0425 ext. 202 or by
email at denise_severin@kpr.edu.on.ca

A gift through your Will The simplest and most common planned gift is a Bequest in your Will. A Bequest is a section in your Will that states how much you would like to give to PCVS and where in your estate it will come from. Bequests can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residual of the estate once all other needs are taken care of. 100% of the Bequest will gain a charitable tax receipt for your estate, reducing the tax burden upon your beneficiaries.

Retirement Funds Similar to a Bequest in a Will, PCVS can be named the beneficiary of all or a portion of your remaining RRSPs and RRIFs once you have passed away. Like a Bequest, a charitable tax receipt will be issued to your estate to offset taxes.

Life Insurance This is a very effective way to give a much larger gift than the expenses paid out for the gift. There are three ways to give through insurance polices; each has its own tax advantages. o You can name the charity as beneficiary of an existing whole life policy; once you die, your estate will receive a tax receipt for the amount of insurance benefit paid to PCVS o You can transfer a paid-up whole life policy to the charity and receive a tax receipt for the current cash surrender value; PCVS will receive the cash surrender amount from the insurance company if it cashes in the policy, or it may choose to retain the policy for future income at a greater amount o You can purchase a new policy, paid in full or in monthly installments, and name PCVS as owner and beneficiary of the policy; you will receive tax receipts for the value of premiums paid in the year you pay them; PCVS will receive the value of the policy once you pass away, or less if it chooses to surrender the policy earlier

Gift Annuities A Charitable Gift Annuity is similar to a GIC in that a lump sum of funds is invested for a fixed rate of return. The Annuity generates a set monthly income to you for life; the difference is that you draw from both the fund's interest and principal. Depending upon the arrangement, PCVS will receive either an immediate gift of 20% of the investment, or will be given the funds remaining in the annuity once you die. The annual income you receive will be tax-free, and a charitable tax receipt will be issued to you when you invest the Annuity; more elderly donors will also receive a charitable receipt each year.

Gifts-in-kind In addition to cash, you can bequeath a wide variety of non-cash gifts, such as real estate, artwork, books, or other personal property; these can be given through your Will, or during your lifetime. Some items may have intrinsic value to PCVS (such as artwork or books for education programs) or they may be sold to generate funds for current needs or endowments. The market value of an in-kind gift must be judged by a certified independent appraiser before a charitable tax receipt can be issued. Please be sure to contact the School before donating this type of gift, to make sure it can be used by the School and will be directed in the most appropriate manner.

What is the best type of Planned Gift you can make to PCVS? There is no simple answer. Each donor's personal circumstances are different, and your current financial needs must be balanced between current assets and long-term requirements. If you wish to make a Planned Gift to PCVS, please speak with a qualified professional who can help you make the best decision; please call the School as well, to make sure we can help you make the best, lasting impact for the School and its students.
